Exercising and Having Fun
A great way to meet people, stay healthy and get to know your community is through sports and recreation activities. The beautiful scenery and distinct seasons make Newfoundland and Labrador a great place to be involved in outdoor activities.
For the outdoor enthusiasts, Newfoundland and Labrador is one of the best places in the world to experience nature at its finest. Recreational activities such as golfing, hiking, hunting, fishing, camping, boating and swimming are popular in summer and autumn. During the winter months skiing, snowshoeing, skating, hockey and snowmobiling are popular.
If staying indoors is more your style, there are all kinds of other activities you can get involved in, such as singing or theatre groups, arts and culture programs, book clubs, evening classes, study groups, and so much more.
You can also visit the Go Healthy website. This site is designed specifically for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to promote healthy living. You can find out more about what government is doing to support healthy living in the province and to see a list of some of the many partners who are involved in wellness. You can check out the section on Healthy Living where you will find information on what you should eat, getting active, living smoke free and how to avoid injuries. You can also learn about healthy living events happening in your local area.
Please check the Yellow Pages of your phone book for a complete listing of community organizations. To find out about recreational activities, groups or programs in your community, call or visit your local community centre, school, church or town hall.
